The Power of Rest: Why Self-Care Is a Business Strategy

In the fast-paced world of business and real estate, rest can feel like a luxury — or worse, a sign of weakness. But the truth is, running on empty doesn’t serve anyone. As Susan McHenry said, “Work when there is work to do. Rest when you are tired. One thing done in peace will most likely be better than ten things done in panic. I am not a hero if I deny rest: I am only tired.” That hits home for me — and probably for you, too.
When we push through exhaustion, we might get more done, but the quality drops, our patience wears thin, and our creativity fades. Self-care isn’t about checking out — it’s about checking in. It’s taking care of your most valuable asset: you. Whether it’s sleep, a walk outside, or simply stepping away for a few minutes, these small acts of rest help us come back stronger, clearer, and more effective.
So the next time your body or mind is asking for a break, listen. You’re not falling behind — you’re recharging. And that rest might just be the reason you’re able to show up fully tomorrow.
